What have the Romans done for us?!

Vine growing in Great Britain may have started with the Romans but the Norman invasion gave us records of their support for viticulture. It wasn’t until the 1950’s that the early pioneers of English wine, sparked the development of the industry we see today.

Now there are 2500 Hectares planted , 1 million in 2017, 1.7 million in 2018, production last year 5.9 million bottles, growth expected to be 40 million bottles by 2040.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE ENGLISH VINEYARDS NOW

After a bumper crop in 2018 . the vineyards of England are busy
pruning their vines.

Unwanted canes are removed and potential fruit bearing canes are chosen. The discarded canes can be burnt in mobile braziers, warming the pruners hands, the ash returned to the soil to feed the vines.

The vines will remain dormant until spring and bud burst.

Sparkling Success

The sparkling wine output is key to this success, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the varieties most planted. International acclaim of our sparkling wines, so suited to our cool climate , has led to this growth. Still wines, led by the Bacchus grape for white wine and Pinot noir for rose and red have produced wines of outstanding quality.

Our wines are chosen by competition results, press reviews, and most importantly, feedback from our customers.

Try a selection of 6 bottles or, visit us at a show, taste the wines and buy online
